History of Flat Creek
|
Everyone who has relatives buried at Flat Creek
would like to know just how old the cemetery is. We have not yet been able
to determine this yet. If anyone knows about the history, please
email me.
We know that the cemetery at Flat Creek has been in use since at least 1806 because the tomb- stone of William M. Bourland shows he was born in 1765 and died July 6, 1806. This would mean that William M. Bourland died in Henderson County since the land that is now Hopkins County was still a part of Henderson County in 1806. The next earliest stone that can still be read at Flat Creek is Solomon Todd who was born October 24, 1801 and died February 21, 1808. Certainly there were other burials between these two, but the markers are either broken, or are so worn they can no longer be read. The table below lists the tombstones from 1806 to 1829 which could still be read when the cemetery was surveyed in the summer of 2002. |
